WASHINGTON D.C. The Nuclear Innovation Alliance (NIA) shared the following statement in response to the Senate’s vote in favor of confirming David Wright to serve for another term on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This statement may be attributed to NIA President and CEO, Judi Greenwald:
“We are pleased that the Senate confirmed David Wright to serve another term on the NRC at this pivotal moment for expanding nuclear energy as a reliable, affordable, and clean source of power for the nation's energy system. We expect his continued tenure will help ensure more effective, efficient, and predictable regulation at the NRC as the nation seeks to commercialize new nuclear technologies.
“To achieve the United States’ ambitious bicameral and bipartisan nuclear energy expansion goals, we urge Congress and the Administration to help David Wright succeed by maintaining the NRC’s independence, credibility and technical capacity. For years, NIA has stated that the NRC must become more efficient, but it must also remain a trusted, independent regulator that enables the safe and responsible deployment of new nuclear energy. The NRC’s status as the gold standard in nuclear regulation is important to U.S. leadership in new nuclear technology. NRC must continue to inspire the confidence of the public, as well as investors, and customers, both here and abroad.”
