Nuclear Innovation Alliance
February 8th, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.  In his State of the Union Address, President Biden emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change and building resilient clean energy infrastructure. He highlighted the potential of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to spur necessary investments in clean energy technologies and urged Congress to continue to make progress on these important priorities.

NIA Executive Director Judi Greenwald provided the following statement in response to the President’s comments during the State of the Union: “We believe there are bipartisan solutions, including advanced nuclear energy, that will help accelerate the clean energy transition while lowering utility bills, creating and preserving American jobs and reducing emissions. Technologies like advanced nuclear reactors will help pave the way to a net-zero emission electricity sector and help reach economy wide domestic and international climate goals. To be clear, more work is needed to solidify advanced nuclear energy’s role as a key piece of the climate solution. Proper implementation of these incentives and programs is needed now to ensure communities can take full advantage of the benefits of clean, emission free advanced nuclear energy in the decades to come.”
